DSH-The Basics Of Hydraulic Couplings–Threads And Seals

Hydraulic coupling, also known as accessories, plays an important role in hydraulic equipment, like threads and hydraulic seals. The coupling is a device used to connect the hose to the hydraulic system. If there is no safe connection used to push the fluid through, the hydraulic machinery will not be able to perform.Normally, the coupling is made of metal and connected to the hydraulic hose assembly.

There are two components in the coupling, one is the dry end and the other is the thread end.The rod end connected to the hose and thread end is connected to the hose assembly and hydraulic equipment.Depending on the type of hose and the fluid pressure through the hose, different coupling is used. When manufacturing hydraulic hose assemblies, there are many ways to connect the joints. There are two types of thread configurations on the coupling: male and female threads. In order to establish consistency in the industry, the thread ends are standardized.

Today, the threaded end design can comply with three main types of hydraulic seals: the threaded seal, the mating angle seal and the “O-ring” seals. The first two are contact seal, the latter “O” ring uses rubber-to-metal seal. The easiest coupling to install is with low-pressure hoses. These joints simply lubricate and push into the end of the hose. When the hose is tightened under pressure, the inclined ridge on the coupling grabs the hose.Hoses designed for high pressure are reusable and permanent joints.Reusable joints are connected to the hose using a sleeve.Ferrule is a ring that is screwed on the hose cover with a wrench. The rod is inserted into the tube of the hose with the thread on the sleeve. The compression of the hose between the rod and the sleeve holds the coupling on the hose.Once, reusable coupling was the most popular coupling in the market, but the popularity of permanent coupling exceeded them.Hydraulic assembly-Manufacturing equipment makes it easier and faster to install permanent coupling.

Typically, the cost of a permanent coupling is lower than that of a field coupling. The permanent coupling requires special equipment called “Curlers” in order to attach them to the hose and apply force perpendicular to the side of the sleeve. When the coupling is curled inward, the serration on the sleeve pierces the hose cover and goes deep into the wire reinforcement. Both have permanent coupling piece and two-Configuration of pieces. One piece, the coupling is pre-Assembled and manufactured with a sleeve permanently attached to the rod.Two-The segmented coupling consists of a rod and a separate sleeve. When using two-Part coupling, it is important to match the sleeve with its proper Rod and hose.Permanent coupling is required for proper installation.
